Ryan’s Birthday

First off, Happy Birthday to my friend Ryan. I hope you enjoyed your day!

So , on to how to make this cake. I used a French Vanilla recipe for the cake and use a cream cheese recipe for the filling and outside icing. I also used fresh strawberries and blueberries to add to the filling.

image

You want to let the cake cool, add the filling with the blueberries and strawberries in the middle.

image

Add the second cake on top and cover with icing.

It’s hard to get a smooth surface so just do the best you can! It’ll get better with practice.

I added piping to the edges and graham cracker crumbs on top. Once I was finished, I put it in the refrigerator to chill. With icings that have butter, it’s best you keep it chilled so it doesn’t melt.

Enjoy!

Baby Shower Blocks

My best friend had her baby shower this weekend for her sweet baby boy. We have been friends since high school and I wanted to make something special. I searched a few magazines and saw these baby blocks cakes.

These are, of course, professionally made. But, I was going to try my bests to duplicate these. This project took me over 5 hours (including cooling times.) So, make sure you have enough time to complete these. You don’t want to rush this project.

I made chocolate cakes using a 5×4 pan that has individual squares. They came out like squares muffins. I made chocolate because the cake they had bought for the party was vanilla. They wanted something different.

In order to get the square look, I had to cut the tops off and flip them over. This made them more of the “perfect” square.

I made a homemade fondant. SUPER easy!!! I will be makng my own fondant from now on. 1. It tastes SO much better than the tub fondant. 2. It’s cheaper to make your own than to buy a tub of it. 3. It’s always good to learn new things while baking.

Make sure that your hands and surfaces are super clean. Fondant tends to pick up everything in its path.

I separated the fondant into two and added coloring to each. I used a pastel green and blue (because she is having a BOY.) Make sure you keep adding confectionate sugar because fondant is SUPER sticky.

THIS IS THE FINAL PRODUCT!!

Yes, they are not professionally done, but I am very excited the way they came out! I used a vanilla whipped icing for the base. I also used the same type of icing and added coloring (the same colors I used for the fondant) for the borders.

The occasional craft

I like to take one tedious DIY crafts every once in awhile. Here is one of them. This took me a WHOLE lot longer than I thought it would.
I used a 2×2 piece of plywood,  white nails, and purple paint.
It’s not complete yet, so look for the finished product !!

Fourth of July treat

I am a health educator and try my best to decrease the calorie content without sacrificing the taste.

I used fresh pureed strawbeeries and added them to the mix. Also, instead of using a blueberry and strawberry frosting, I made a whipped frosting and added fresh berries on top.

They were a hit!
